The use of closed suction catheters includes preparation, operation, and recording of materials, mainly used for patients undergoing tracheal intubation and mechanical ventilation in the ICU.

After suctioning, clean with physiological saline, organize the materials, and keep nursing records.

The replacement time of closed suction sytem is usually once every 24 hours. When the replacement time of closed suction tubes is set to 24 hours, 48 hours, and 120 hours in clinical practice, it was found that there is no significant difference in the incidence of ventilator-associated pneumonia, mortality rate, mechanical ventilation time, and residence time in the intensive care unit.
Therefore, considering economic factors, when non ICU patients undergo closed suction, the closed suction tube does not need to be replaced daily. Generally, it can be replaced immediately when visible contamination occurs, with a maximum replacement time of 120 hours.
