Shale shaker screens are the important wearing parts for whole mud system and even a whole well drilling project. We know the screen is the main consumption in a whole solids control system. Some screens even only are used for 20 hours. This is not meanting the poor quality but the working condition is too difficult.

Why do we need API 13C conformed screen?

API 13C is the recommended practice issued by API decades ago. The complete code is API RP13C. There is specific instruction on the screen manufacture. The main meaning of screen API size is the cut point based on the common standard D100 cut point. So the screens will come into the certain designation

The correct and exact cut point will help users to get the proper screens at a certain drilling phase with the certain drilling fluids. For example, at the early stage of a well drilled about hundred meters, we don't need the screen sized over API 140. Or based on the geological condition, we just need the coarse screen will be enough

Different manufacturers produce screens with different configuration. One supplier told the screen size is 180 mesn, it may be API 140, but the other supplier told the screen is 180 mesh it may be API 170. This is because of the layers and the wire diameter of screen cloth. And based on API 13C confomred screen, they usually have been tested on the conductance. So clients can select the screens from different suppliers freely based on their preference of conductance data.

What is the main configuration of Shaker screen?

There are frames, the wire mesh cloth, the sealing rubber if necessary. And for the screen frames, there are steel framed and composite frames. For steel frames, we need the perforated plate and squre tubers welded together. For the composite frames, we need to weld tubes and the wire rod together for further injection on frames.

For the screen cloth, we supply the shaker screens made of high quality stainless steel 304L to 316L. As the wearing parts, the shaker screen is high cost. Sometimes, the screen panels with high quality material may last shorter than expectation as the service life is very related with configuration, working condition and the mesh size selection.
