Drilling groundwater wells involves encountering various formations such as soil, sand layers, gravel layers, moderately weathered rock, and slightly weathered rock. Water well drilling rigs achieve multi-formation coverage through "modular drilling tools + adjustable drilling parameters":
For unconsolidated formations (soil, sand layers): Equipped with auger drill pipes and scraper bits, they realize rapid hole formation through rotational cutting. Mud or compressed air is used for slag removal to prevent hole wall collapse.
For hard formations (gravel, rock): Equipped with percussion bits and roller cone bits, they break hard rock through a combined "percussion + rotation" action. Some rig types (e.g., pneumatic drilling rigs) can enhance hard rock drilling efficiency via high-frequency percussion.
Flexible parameter adjustment: Drilling speed, percussion force, and slag removal intensity can be adjusted according to formation hardness (e.g., adjusting air pressure for pneumatic rigs, oil pressure for hydraulic rigs), avoiding issues like "inability to drill" or "excessive wear of drilling tools".
2. Controllable Hole Formation Quality: Ensuring Well Stability and Water Yield
The core goal of a water well drilling rig is to "drill a qualified water well", so it is specifically designed for hole formation accuracy and hole wall stability:
High verticality: Most rig models are equipped with "leveling devices" (e.g., hydraulic outriggers, spirit levels). During drilling, the rig body level can be adjusted in real time to ensure the hole verticality error is ≤1% (especially for deep well drilling), preventing drill pipe jamming or insufficient well water yield caused by hole deviation.
Reliable hole wall protection: Mud wall protection (for electric/hydraulic rigs) or air wall protection (for pneumatic rigs) is used to form a stable protective layer on the hole wall, reducing the risk of collapse in unconsolidated formations. Some deep well drilling rigs can also lower well casings (steel pipes, PVC pipes) to further reinforce the hole wall and extend the service life of the water well.
Flexible hole diameter adaptation: Different specifications of drilling tools can be replaced as needed to drill wells with a diameter of 100-500mm (e.g., 150-200mm for rural household wells, 300-500mm for industrial wells), matching the water yield requirements of different scenarios.
3. High Operational Efficiency: Shortening Drilling Cycles and Reducing Time Costs
Compared with traditional manual well drilling (e.g., manual digging, animal-powered drilling), mechanized water well drilling rigs have significant efficiency advantages:
Fast drilling speed: Small-sized rigs (e.g., pneumatic drilling rigs) take only 1-2 days to drill through 100 meters of sand layers and 3-5 days for hard rock formations; medium and large hydraulic rigs take only 5-7 days to drill through 300-meter deep wells, with efficiency 10-20 times that of traditional methods.
High automation level: Medium and large rigs are equipped with "automatic feeding systems" and "automatic drill pipe handling devices", eliminating the need for frequent manual handling of drill pipes and reducing labor input. Some intelligent rig models can monitor the drilling status in real time via sensors and automatically adjust parameters, lowering the cost of manual intervention.
Strong continuous operation capability: Core components (e.g., motors, hydraulic pumps, pneumatic hammers) have stable performance for long-term operation and can achieve 24-hour continuous drilling (with regular maintenance of wearing parts).
