Back off sub, also known as back off spear, is a vital downhole fishing tool applied for oil & gas well fishing operations. It serves as an effective alternative to taper taps to conduct fishing and backoff operations during stuck pipe treatment.
When the downhole fish becomes jammed and cannot be backed off successfully, the string can be released at the back off sub. Operators can then trip out the upper drilling assembly safely, allowing subsequent fishing solutions to be run into the well. This tool greatly improves the flexibility of fish recovery and reduces operation risks in well fishing.
