The vacuum rake dryer is a horizontal, indirect heat transfer, intermittent vacuum drying system. It operates by indirectly heating materials through a jacket/hollow shaft using heat mediums like steam, heat transfer oil, or hot water. Under negative pressure vacuum, built-in rake teeth agitate the material, enabling rapid vaporization of moisture or solvents at low temperatures, which are then removed by the vacuum system.

Core Structure and Working Principle
Sealed Shell and Jacket: Horizontal cylindrical construction with outer heating jacket (half-pipe or hollow paddle designs) operating under negative pressure vacuum.
Rake Teeth and Stirring Shaft: Forward and reverse rotation drive system where stirring shaft moves rake teeth alternately. Forward rotation pushes material to sides; reverse rotation gathers material toward center, ensuring uniform heating and preventing coking. Irregularly shaped rake teeth combine pushing and crushing functions, with some models featuring internal crushing rods to break up clumps during drying.
Condensation and Vacuum System: Vaporized solvents pass through filters/dust collectors and are recovered in condensers, while non-condensable gases are removed by vacuum pumps.

Limitations:
  • Intermittent Production: Batch processing for feeding, drying, and discharging limits continuity
  • Mechanical Wear: Shear wear on granular materials unsuitable for maintaining crystalline structures
  • Complex Structure: Vacuum shaft seals require regular maintenance to prevent leakage
  • Complex Cleaning: Numerous internal mechanical parts increase cleaning costs during product switching
Key Selection and Design Parameters
Heat Transfer Area and Filling Ratio:
Filling coefficient typically controlled between 30-50%. Excessive filling affects evaporation space and stirring efficiency, while insufficient filling reduces heat transfer efficiency.

Shaft Seal Type (Leak Prevention):
Packaging seals are low-cost but prone to leakage for general materials. Double-end mechanical seals with gas/liquid flushing are standard for high vacuum, toxic, or corrosive solvent applications.
Discharge Valve Selection:
Use vacuum pneumatic ball valves or plunger valves with flush discharge port designs ("dead-angle-free valves") to prevent material accumulation before drying.
Common Faults and Maintenance Points
Vacuum Degree Decrease:
Caused by mechanical seal wear, aging discharge valve/manhole cover seals, or poor condenser cooling leading to incomplete solvent condensation.
Main Shaft Noise or Seizure:
Results from increased resistance during material binder phase or rake teeth colliding with inner walls. Requires inspection of reducer and drive chain.
Dust Entering Vacuum Pump:
Caused by damaged built-in bag filters or titanium filter elements at cylinder top, or malfunctioning backflushing systems.
