Stainless Steel Disc Dryer For Handling Pastes, Powder And Slurries
The hollow disk dryer is a horizontal continuous conductive heating drying equipment named for its internal rotor featuring a hollow disk structure. It is widely used in industries such as chemical processing, food production, and environmental protection, and excels at handling paste-like, granular, and heat-sensitive materials.
Its working principle is based on the synergistic effect of conductive heating and rotational conveying. The main unit consists of a jacketed cylinder with a hollow central shaft running through it, on which several hollow discs are evenly spaced. A heat transfer medium (steam or thermal oil) flows simultaneously into both the jacket around the cylinder and the internal cavities of the discs. Material enters from the feed end, is pushed and continuously agitated by the rotating discs, and comes into full contact with the heated surfaces of the disc faces and cylinder walls. Moisture evaporates upon heating, and the dried material is discharged from the outlet end.
Difference from hollow blade dryers: Both are horizontal conductive dryers, but the paddle dryer uses intermeshing blades to generate strong shear and self-cleaning action on the material, making it better suited for highly viscous materials. In contrast, the disc dryer advances material via discs, offering a larger heating surface area per unit volume, greater structural rigidity, and a gentler drying process—particularly suitable for granular materials or processes requiring avoidance of excessive shear.
The equipment boasts a thermal efficiency of up to 80%–90%, excellent sealing performance, enables solvent recovery, and allows convenient replacement of disc plates when worn. It is widely used in activated sludge drying, polymer granulation drying, and food additive production, making it one of the leading choices for energy-efficient and environmentally friendly continuous drying.
