Utilizing expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE) microporous membrane technology, the company achieves a perfect balance between waterproofing and breathability.
The micropore size of ePTFE waterproof and breathable membrane is approximately 0.1–10 microns, which is far smaller than the diameter of water droplets (about 100 microns) but much larger than the molecular diameter of water vapor (about 0.0004 microns). As a result, liquid water cannot pass through, while air and water vapor can flow freely, achieving a "waterproof and breathable" effect.

An outdoor LED lighting manufacturer reported that after three months of use, extensive condensation appeared inside the lamp housings of its 150W street lamps. Some lamps experienced driver short circuits due to accumulated condensation water. Analysis revealed that the sealed lamp cavity generated a "breathing effect" under day-night temperature differences, drawing external moisture into the cavity. The solution was to install Sandeli ePTFE waterproof and breathable membrane (airflow rate: 1500 ml/min/cm², IP68 rated) on the inner side of the breathing hole at the bottom of the lamp housing. After six months of outdoor follow-up testing, no visible condensation was observed inside the lamp housings, and the lamps passed IP68 waterproof testing.
A consumer electronics brand developing a new sports smartwatch needed to reduce the device thickness from 12mm to 10mm while maintaining IP68 waterproof protection. The original solution used silicone rubber sealing rings, but after thickness reduction, the sealing margin was insufficient. Sandeli provided a miniature die-cut waterproof and breathable membrane (3mm × 5mm, membrane thickness 0.05mm), which was applied to the inner side of the barometer port. This solution not only achieved IP68 waterproofing but also freed up internal space, and the finished product successfully passed the 5ATM waterproof certification.
The choice of airflow rate depends on the internal gas volume of the product and the rate of temperature change. The larger the volume and the faster the temperature changes, the higher the required airflow rate. For consumer electronics (watches, earphones), 300–800 ml/min/cm² is generally recommended; for outdoor lighting fixtures, 1000–2000 ml/min/cm² is recommended. IP67 is suitable for daily waterproof and rainproof scenarios (1 meter underwater for 30 minutes), while IP68 is suitable for prolonged submersion or high-pressure water jet cleaning scenarios (1.5 meters underwater for 30 minutes+). Both use the same material, with only slight differences in membrane thickness and structure, and the price difference is minimal. If you are unsure about the usage environment, it is recommended to directly choose IP68 for greater safety.
Adhesive bonding (using 3M tape, etc.) is simple to install and low-cost, making it suitable for flat housings. The recommended application temperature is 21°C–38°C to ensure proper adhesion. Mechanical clamping (pressing the membrane with an O-ring or gasket) is suitable for high-temperature or high-vibration environments and offers higher reliability.
