Fiber optic closure, also known as fiber optic splicing closures, is a device used to provide space and protection for fiber optic cables spliced together. The fiber optic closure connects and stores optical fibers safely either in the outside plant or indoor buildings. It can provide protection for the fiber joint and the fiber cables since they have excellent mechanical strength and strong out shell, which ensures the joints are not damaged by the hostile environment.

Applications:
1.1 FTTx (Fiber to the x) Networks: Used at distribution points (DPs) to split a main feeder cable into multiple drop cables going to homes or businesses.

Functions:
2.1 Environmental Protection: The closure is sealed (often with gaskets and gel) to be watertight, dustproof, and resistant to various chemicals, ensuring the long-term reliability of the splices inside.
2.2 Splice Protection: It houses and protects the fragile fusion splice protectors or splice trays, organizing them securely to prevent microbending or breakage.
2.3 Fiber Storage: It provides ample space to store the slack fiber (excess fiber) that is left for future repairs, re-splicing, or reconfiguration. This is stored in loops, often with a specified minimum bend radius.
2.4 Cable Securement: It has strong mechanical structures to grip and secure the strength members (like aramid yarns or fiberglass rods) of the incoming and outgoing cables, relieving strain on the fibers themselves.
2.5 Organization & Management: It helps organize and route fibers neatly between different cables, which is crucial for maintenance and troubleshooting.
