Lightweight IXPP Foam Roll for Helmet Liner

Irradiation Cross-Linked Polypropylene Foam — Impact-Absorbing Helmet Liner Material

Product Overview

EKKOFLEX's lightweight IXPP (Irradiation Cross-Linked Polypropylene) foam roll is a closed cell foam material specifically engineered for helmet liner applications. Produced from polypropylene through extrusion, electron beam irradiation cross-linking and foaming, the material achieves a fine closed-cell structure with a closed-cell rate over 98%, delivering outstanding impact absorption, thermal insulation and moisture resistance while keeping the liner lightweight and easy to process.
With density starting at just 33 kg/m³, this IXPP foam roll significantly reduces helmet weight while providing reliable energy absorption for impact protection. Compared with common PE foams, it offers better heat resistance, lower odor, good dimensional stability and strong mechanical performance. Its excellent thermoforming capability allows precise molding into helmet liner shapes, and its closed cell structure resists moisture from sweat, keeping the liner durable and hygienic over long-term use.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. What is IXPP foam and why is it used for helmet liners?
IXPP (Irradiation Cross-Linked Polypropylene) foam is a closed-cell foam formed by cross-linking polypropylene through electron beam irradiation, then foaming it into a lightweight structure. Its closed-cell rate over 98%, light weight, high resilience and energy absorption make it an ideal helmet liner material.
  2. What is the difference between IXPP foam and IXPE foam?
IXPP is irradiation cross-linked polypropylene foam, while IXPE is irradiation cross-linked polyethylene foam. IXPP offers better high-temperature resistance, lower thermal shrinkage and stronger mechanical performance, making it preferred for helmet liners and automotive interiors.
  3. Can the foam be thermoformed into helmet liner shapes?
Yes. The foam has good thermal weldability and processing performance, supporting thermoforming, vacuum forming, die cutting, punching and compression molding to produce precise helmet liner geometries.
  4. Is the foam safe and comfortable for direct skin contact?
Yes. It has low odor, minimal VOC emissions and is non-toxic. The closed cell structure resists moisture and sweat, keeping the liner hygienic and durable over long-term use.
