1. Description
Among reinforcements, fiberglass fabrics are still the most commonly used reinforcements in the composites industry today. Generally, they are the cheapest of reinforcements and easy to handle. When combined with resin, it provides composite parts with excellent strength, lightweight, and aesthetics.
All fiberglass fabrics are woven for fiber orientation, and each has its own unique weight, strength, and fabric characteristics that should be considered before starting any project.
Plain weave – the cheapest and least flexible fabric, but holds together well when cut
Twill weave - a compromise between plain and satin weave; flexible, moderate strength, and desirable appearance
Satin weave - flexible and moderately strong; one weft floats over 3-7 warp yarns and then stitches under another warp yarn; produces a flatter fabric
