1. What is the difference between EO2 and EO1 control?
Both EO1 and EO2 are electro-proportional displacement controls - pump flow is proportional to the electric command signal via a proportional solenoid + LVDT position feedback. The key difference: EO2 requires a higher external pilot pressure (typically min. 50 bar, often 100 bar for Size 355) to operate the control spool, whereas EO1 can work with lower pilot pressure (≈20 bar, sizes 40-250). 2. Can I mount a second pump on the back?
Yes. The PPB mounting code indies through‑drive capability. You can flange-mount another A4VSO pump (same or smaller size) on the rear to form a tandem combination. N00 = no auxiliary gear pump pre-fitted on the through-drive shaft, but the through-drive shaft is present.
3. What are the critical installation points?
Case Drain (Leakage Line): Must connect directly to tank, backpressure ≤ 1.5-2 bar. Never tee into the main return.
Suction Line: Keep short & large-diameter; ensure absolute inlet pressure ≥ 0.8 bar to avoid cavitation. Use 100 µm suction strainer.
Pilot Pressure (EO2): Supply the EO2 pilot port with clean hydraulic oil at the required pilot pressure (≥ 50 bar, check nameplate - often 100 bar for Size 355).
Rotation Check: "L" = counter‑clockwise when viewed from shaft end - verify prime mover direction before coupling.
Bleed: Fill case and suction side with oil and vent before first start-up.
4. Does EO2 need a separate amplifier?
Yes. The pump has the proportional solenoid and LVDT onboard, but requires an external electronic amplifier (e.g. Rexroth VT 5035-1X or PLC analog output card) to supply the command signal (±10V / 4-20mA / PWM as specified) and 24V DC for the solenoid. The amplifier is ordered separately.
5. Is a system relief valve still required?
Yes, absolutely. EO2 controls displacement/flow only - it provides no pressure limiting function. You must install a properly sized system safety relief valve (e.g. DB type) in the pressure line.
6. What oil cleanliness is required?
Maintain hydraulic oil at ISO 4406 18/16/13 (NAS 1638 Class 8 -9) minimum, using a return-line filter with β₁₀ ≥ 200 (10 µm nominal). Contaminated oil is the leading cause of A4VSO pump failure.
7. What pilot pressure is needed for EO2 on Size 355?
For A4VSO Size 355 with EO2 control, the typical minimum pilot pressure is 50 bar, often specified as 100 bar depending on the exact sub-version. The pilot oil must be clean and sourced from the main system or a dedied pilot pump. Lack of adequate pilot pressure will cause the EO2 controller to fail to stroke the swash plate.
