Note: A4VSO is an industrial open-circuit pump — NOT a direct OEM travel pump for mobile wheel loaders/excavators (those use A4VG/A11VO). Suitable for loader's stationary auxiliary HPU or shop test rigs, not directly bolt-on to transmission.
Mining: Used in mine hoist hydraulic clamps, crusher wedge adjusters, roof support test benches, or centralized mine-site hydraulic power stations where precise electrically controlled flow is needed. NOT typically the walking drive pump of continuous miners.
Oilfield: Found on skid-mounted well-service HPUs, drawworks brake/clutch control packs, and BOP test rigs — anywhere an open-circuit variable flow pump with remote electric control is required.
Loader / Wheel Loader: A4VSO is not the main travel pump of a wheel loader (that would be A4VG or A11VO). It can be used in:
Loader manufacturer's factory test stands for validating steering/implement valves.
Large loaders' auxiliary fixed HPUs (e.g., for specialized attachments powered from a separate pump pack).
Retrofit situations where an industrial-style open-circuit variable pump is needed for attachment control.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
1. What is the difference between EO2 and EO1 control?
Both are electro-proportional displacement controls (flow ∝ command signal, LVDT feedback onboard). Difference is pilot pressure requirement:
EO1: Min. pilot ~20 bar (Sizes 40-250).
EO2: Min. pilot ~50-100 bar (Sizes 250/355/500+, offers higher control stiffness).
For A4VSO250 with EO2, ensure your system can supply clean pilot oil at ≥ 50 bar (check nameplate — often 100 bar for Size 250 EO2).
2. Can I mount a second pump on the back?
Yes. The PPB code = through-drive capable. An A4VSO (same/smaller) or gear pump can be flange-mounted to the rear. N00 = no auxiliary pump pre-fitted, through-drive shaft present.
3. What are critical installation points?
Case Drain: Plumb directly to tank, backpressure ≤ 1.5-2 bar. Never tee into main return.
Suction Line: Short & large-diameter; absolute inlet pressure ≥ 0.8 bar. Use 100 µm suction strainer.
Pilot Pressure (EO2): Supply pilot port with clean oil at required min. pressure (typically 50-100 bar). Insufficient pilot pressure → swash plate won't stroke.
Rotation Check: "L" = counter-clockwise from shaft end — verify prime mover direction.
Bleed: Fill case and suction with oil, vent before first start-up.
4. Does EO2 need a separate amplifier?
Yes. Pump has solenoid + LVDT but requires an external proportional amplifier (e.g. Rexroth VT 5035-1X or PLC analog output with current driver) for the command signal and 24 V DC. Amplifier ordered separately.
5. Is a system relief valve still required?
Yes, absolutely. EO2 controls displacement/flow only — no pressure limiting. Install a properly sized system safety relief valve (e.g. DB type) set above max working pressure + ~10-15% margin.
6. What oil cleanliness is required?
Maintain ISO 4406 18/16/13 (NAS 1638 Class 8-9) minimum using return-line filter β₁₀ ≥ 200 (10 µm nominal). Contamination is the primary cause of A4VSO premature failure.
7. Can this replace an A4VSO250EO1?
Mechanically yes (same flange, displacement, rotation). Electrically/hydraulically you must ensure your system can supply the higher pilot pressure required by EO2. If your original system was designed for EO1 (20 bar pilot), verify pilot source before substituting with EO2.
