Overview
The Schneider Electric 140-EHC-202-00 is a high-speed counter module designed for demanding industrial automation applications. Part of Schneider Electric’s I/O module portfolio, it delivers precise counting and measurement functions, making it ideal for high-speed pulse counting and encoder interfacing. Commonly used in manufacturing, motion control, and process automation, this module enhances accuracy in data acquisition and supports efficient machine operation.
Key Features and Functionality
This module offers two high-speed counting channels that support incremental and quadrature counting modes, with a maximum counting frequency of 500,000 Hz. It ensures accurate monitoring and control in high-speed applications such as position tracking, rotary encoder systems, and precision process monitoring.
The module uses six input and six output words for addressing and supports both 16-bit (65,535 decimal) and 32-bit (2,147,483,647 decimal) data storage formats.
Input and Output Specifications
The 140-EHC-202-00 accommodates multiple discrete input voltage levels: 5V, 12V, and 24V DC, with operating thresholds varying according to the selected mode. It features an input resistance of 10 kΩ for stable signal acquisition.
For output, the module provides four discrete outputs based on Field Effect Transistor (FET) technology, enabling fast and reliable switching. Each output supports a load current of 0.5A with a voltage drop of 0.4V in the ON state. Short-circuit protection is ensured through a 2.5A fuse.
Reliability and Protection
Designed for industrial durability, the module offers channel-to-bus isolation rated at 1780 Vrms for 60 seconds. Additional protection features include detection of loss of output field power, transient voltage suppression (36V transport protection), and an integrated fault detection system. These contribute to high operational reliability in challenging environments.
Power dissipation is 4W plus 0.4W per total module load current. The external power supply range is 19.2V to 30V DC, offering compatibility with various power setups.
Integration and Connectivity
The module supports distributed, local, and remote rack mounting, allowing flexible integration into automation systems. It carries CE certification, confirming compliance with industrial quality and safety standards. LED indicators per channel facilitate quick diagnostics and status monitoring.

Especially the advanced two - machine hot - standby system has simple configuration and convenient operation. Through two sets of modules with identical configuration, the form of primary and secondary is formed. Under normal state, the host CPU is responsible for processing program operation, I/O communication, update the status and data of the standby CPU through the hot standby module, and the standby machine monitors the running status of the host. When the host machine fails, the standby machine will switch immediately and become the host machine to replace the processing work of the failed machine. Moreover, the switching time is short and will not exceed a scanning cycle of PLC, so the logic operation will not be affected.
