Core Functions
Synchronized Locking & Unlocking: Connects to the Body Control Module (BCM) to execute commands from the key fob, touchscreen, or exterior “press-to-unlock” handle. When locked, it engages the stainless steel striker pin (on the door pillar) to prevent accidental opening during driving; when unlocked, it releases smoothly for easy access.
Reliable Operation & Status Alerts: Features a high-response solenoid (acts in ≤0.3s) for instant handle-triggered opening, plus a mechanical backup linkage for the interior handle (works if power fails). It has a “half-latch” function—catching the striker if the door isn’t fully closed and sending a “Front Right Door Ajar” alert to the dashboard.
Safety Protection: Auto-locks during collisions (via airbag sensor signals) to avoid occupant ejection; includes a hidden manual pull tab for emergency opening (if electrical systems fail). It also coordinates with the door’s anti-pinch sensor, reversing closing if resistance (e.g., a hand) is detected.
Durable Construction

Installation
Power off, disconnect the 12V battery; remove the front right inner door panel (detach clips, disconnect window switch/exterior handle wiring).
Remove old latch: disconnect its electrical connector and mechanical cables, unscrew 3×10mm bolts, and pull it away.
Clean the mounting surface; check the striker pin (tighten bolts if loose, replace if corroded).
Align 1738946-01-D, reconnect the connector and cables, hand-tighten bolts, then torque to 8±0.5 Nm.
Reconnect the battery, reinstall the panel; test locking/unlocking, anti-pinch, and clear BCM error codes (via Tesla tool).
