The NI-6589 (Part number: 783888-01) Digital I/O Adapter Module from National Instruments has the following features: a maximum data rate of 1 Gbit/s, 20 bidirectional digital channels, differential signaling, a maximum clock rate of 1 GHz, 100 Ohm digital I/O termination, and compatibility with a Kintex-7 FPGA. This LVDS Digital I/O Adapter Module can carry out the interfacing standard protocols and implementing customized protocols at various voltage levels. When combined with PXI FPGA Modules or Controllers for FlexRIO, this Digital I/O Adapter Module becomes an instrument capable of interfacing with 20 low voltage differential signaling digital pins. The NI 6589 is designed to support common LVDS voltages and sample waveforms up to 1 GHz.
The NI 6589 Digital I/O Adapter Module for FlexRIO can address a range of requirements, including the real time emulation of custom protocols and high speed communication with a device under test. FlexRIO systems are designed for engineers whose requirements include the flexibility of customized hardware without the cost of customized design. The NI-6589 Digital I/O Adapter Module for FlexRIO can be fully reconfigured and programmed graphically with LabVIEW or VHDL/Verilog. Target applications for FlexRIO include RADAR, communications, medical imaging, automated test, signals intelligence, communications, and scientific and medical instrumentation.
FlexRIO’s architecture offers the advantage of using the most advanced high-speed technologies prior to when they are generally available in conventional commercial-off-the-shelf instruments, which is useful in applications that continuously require a higher sample rate, resolution, bandwidth, and channel count.
