The Overspeed Governor is a fundamental safety component in elevator systems, designed to prevent catastrophic accidents caused by excessive speed. Operating on mechanical principles, the governor connects to the elevator car through governor ropes. When descending speed surpasses the rated limit (typically 115-125% of normal speed), centrifugal force causes the weighted arms to swing outward, engaging the braking mechanism. This action simultaneously triggers the safety gears to clamp onto guide rails, bringing the elevator to a controlled stop.
Modern overspeed governors incorporate both mechanical and electrical components, with some advanced models featuring electronic speed monitoring for enhanced precision. The device must comply with international safety standards like EN 81-20/50 and ASME A17.1, undergoing rigorous testing to ensure reliability.

1. Are the elevator wire ropes durable?
The elevator wire rope has special provisions and requirements. Configuration is not only for wire rope and rated load, but also considered the size of the traction, as a result, the tensile strength of wire rope is greater than the weight of the lift. 4. How the elevator running?
Elevators are operated with a counterweight wire rope through the (tractor) traction drive, making ups and downs on the guide rail.
