Application Method Of Metallic Epoxy Floor Coating:

1. Substrate Preparation

• Grind the concrete surface using a floor grinder to remove laitance, oil, grease, old coatings, and loose particles.

• Fill all cracks, holes, and expansion joints with epoxy repair mortar.

• Vacuum thoroughly to remove all dust and debris.

• Test moisture content (must be ≤ 8%).

• Test surface flatness (2m straightedge, gap ≤ 3mm).

2. Primer Application

• Mix epoxy primer according to the ratio (A:B).

• Apply one coat evenly using a roller or squeegee.

• Coverage: approx. 0.15 – 0.25 kg/m².

• Allow to dry for 6–10 hours at 25°C (longer at lower temperatures).

• Do not apply the next coat if the primer is still tacky.

3. Metallic Base Coat Application

• Accurately weigh Part A and Part B according to the specified ratio (e.g., 3:1 or 2:1).

• Mix with an electric stirrer at low speed for 2–3 minutes until homogeneous.

• Pour the mixed material onto the prepared floor.

• Spread evenly using a gauge rake or squeegee.

• Recommended thickness: 1.5 – 2.0 mm.

• Coverage: approx. 1.5 – 2.2 kg/m² (depending on thickness).

4. Creating the Metallic Effect

• Immediately after spreading the base coat, apply metallic pigments (liquid or powder) using a brush, roller, or specialized tools.

• Common techniques:

  • Marble effect – drag tools through the wet epoxy in sweeping arcs.

  • Swirl effect – use a circular motion to create movement.

  • Wave effect – use a trowel or spatula to create fluid lines.

  • Custom design – combine techniques to create unique patterns.

• The pigments will rise and blend naturally as the epoxy cures.

• Important: Work in small sections (2–3 m² at a time) to keep the material wet and workable before the pot life expires.

5. Bubble Removal

• Immediately after creating the pattern, use a spiked roller over the entire surface in both directions to release trapped air.

• This also helps level the material for a smooth finish.

6. Curing

• Protect the surface from dust, moisture, and foot traffic during curing.

• Light foot traffic: after 24 hours (at 25°C).

• Full cure: after 7 days.

• At lower temperatures (<15°C), curing times will be longer.

7. Optional Clear Topcoat (Recommended)

• For areas with heavy traffic or UV exposure, apply a clear polyurethane or polyaspartic topcoat.

• Benefits:

  • Scratch resistance

  • UV resistance (anti-yellowing)

  • Stain protection

  • Easier cleaning

• Mix and apply according to the product's instructions.

• Coverage: approx. 0.1 – 0.2 kg/m².

• Light traffic after 24 hours; full cure after 7 days.

Working Conditions

• Temperature: 15 – 30°C (ideal), 10 – 35°C (acceptable)

• Relative humidity: ≤ 85%

• Substrate temperature must be above dew point (to avoid condensation)

• Avoid application in rainy weather or direct sunlight.

Key Tips

• Plan your pattern design before starting.

• Work quickly — pot life is approximately 20–30 minutes at 25°C.

• Mix small batches if working alone to maintain control.

• Maintain a wet edge — keep application areas adjacent to avoid visible joints.

• 2–3 person team recommended for large areas (1 x mixing / pouring, 1 x spreading, 1 x effect creation).

• Avoid over‑rolling — too much rolling may flatten the metallic effect.

• Keep tools clean — clean immediately with appropriate thinner after use.
