This custom PFAS-free waterproof breathable membrane provides robust environmental sealing for electronics enclosures while completely eliminating fluorinated materials. It is a direct drop-in replacement for ePTFE vent films, offering superior air exchange and high water entry pressure. Available with custom adhesive backings, the membrane can be converted into finished gaskets, patches, or die-cut parts. It ensures reliable pressure equalization and condensation prevention in outdoor telecom boxes, solar inverters, and industrial control cabinets, all while aligning with stringent PFAS-free manufacturing requirements.
Outdoor enclosures experience daily temperature swings that cause internal pressure differentials, drawing in moisture and dust through gasket imperfections. Traditional vent membranes use PTFE, which is classified as a PFAS. Disposal of these membranes through incineration can emit toxic fluorinated gases. Furthermore, product designers now mandate PFAS-free supply chains to comply with evolving legislation and corporate sustainability goals, but alternatives must not sacrifice the waterproof breathability critical to enclosure longevity.
We supply a PFAS-free polyolefin-based breathable membrane that can be laminated with pressure-sensitive adhesives. The film is inherently hydrophobic and oleophobic, repelling water and light oils. It breathes continuously to maintain internal pressure equilibrium, preventing seal deformation and water ingress. Customization options include sheet, roll, or individually cut pieces, with or without adhesive, ready to assemble into your enclosure vent ports. This solution ensures IP66/IP67 protection and long-term corrosion-free electronics.
Typical uses include outdoor WiFi access point enclosures, solar combiner boxes, LED power supply housings, security camera cases, and field instrument enclosures. The membrane can be integrated into existing vent plugs or directly adhered over internal port openings.
As the enclosure heats in sunlight, internal pressure rises, and air escapes through the micropores. Cooling draws external air back in, but moisture and dust are trapped on the membrane surface. The PFAS-free polymer matrix ensures that the pore structure remains stable under continuous cycling. Surface energy treatment allows water droplets to bead and roll off, maintaining airflow even after prolonged rain exposure.
Assess your enclosure’s internal free air volume and the maximum temperature change rate to calculate the required airflow. Choose an adhesive that bonds reliably to your enclosure plastic – polycarbonate, ABS, or aluminum. For enclosures with existing vent bosses, specify the die-cut shape and outer diameter.
