Cause

Hot-fill processing is the dominant preservation method for high-acid beverages like fruit juices, iced teas, sports drinks, and vitamin waters. As the hot-filled beverage cools, the contracting liquid volume creates a negative pressure differential. Ambient air is drawn through the billions of microscopic pores in the ePTFE membrane, equalizing the internal pressure with the atmosphere. The bottle walls remain perfectly smooth and rigid. How It Works

The vent liner is inserted into the bottle cap and applied during the capping process. The filled and capped bottle passes under an induction sealing head, which melts the heat-seal layer, bonding the liner to the bottle neck. The bottle enters the cooling tunnel. As the liquid cools and contracts, the internal pressure drops. The ePTFE membrane window allows filtered ambient air to flow into the headspace, replacing the volume lost to contraction.
