Brass Breather Bolt Vent EPTFE Membrane Corrosion Resistant Marine Outdoor
The brass breather bolt vent with ePTFE membrane is purpose-built for marine and harsh outdoor environments. Brass provides excellent natural corrosion resistance, particularly against salt spray, while the ePTFE membrane ensures reliable waterproof ventilation. This vent prevents condensation in navigation lights, deck enclosures, and on-shore equipment, avoiding internal corrosion and electrical failure caused by trapped humidity.
Marine environments subject electrical and mechanical enclosures to continuous salt mist, high humidity, and temperature swings. A sealed enclosure heated by the sun will draw in moist, salt-laden air as it cools at night. This saline condensate rapidly corrodes contacts, bearings, and metal casings. Standard vents with ferrous bodies rust quickly and can seize in place, failing when most needed.
A brass breather bolt with ePTFE membrane threads directly into the enclosure. Brass forms a protective patina that resists further corrosion. The membrane equalizes pressure and allows water vapor to escape, keeping internal humidity low. It blocks salt spray and rain, ensuring that sensitive navigation electronics and winch gearboxes stay dry. The vent remains removable even after years of salt exposure.
Ideal for marine navigation light housings, deck junction boxes, yacht electronics panels, coastal weather stations, dock-side power pedestals, and windlass gearbox covers.
When the marine enclosure is heated by the sun or internal electronics, air expands and vents out through the ePTFE membrane, carrying moisture. As it cools, air is drawn in, but salt particles and water droplets are stopped at the hydrophobic surface. The brass body’s thermal mass reduces rapid temperature cycling on the membrane itself, prolonging its functional life.
For full-saltwater immersion applications, choose the nickel-plated brass option for added surface protection. Verify thread compatibility with your enclosure; many marine housings use NPT threads. Consider adding a protective shroud if the vent is located where it may suffer mechanical impact from ropes or gear.
Q: Will the brass discolor in salt air?
A: Yes, it will develop a dark patina over time, which is normal and protective. It does not affect function.
Q: Can I install it on a plastic marine housing?
A: Yes, but use care not to cross-thread. The brass is harder than plastic and can strip housing threads if over-torqued.
Q: Does the ePTFE membrane need protection from UV?
A: The vent is designed with an integrated cap that shields the membrane from direct sunlight.
