This EPTFE IP67 waterproof acoustic vent cover is designed for portable Bluetooth speakers that must deliver room-filling sound despite exposure to pool water, beach sand, and outdoor grime. The vent cover is a pre-shaped, multilayer assembly consisting of an EPTFE film bonded to a black non-woven support, offering a combination of high water resistance and low acoustic loss. It is engineered to cover the speaker driver and passive radiator openings, allowing the speaker to produce strong bass and clear highs even after complete submersion. The EPTFE membrane’s high air permeability (over 40 cfm) ensures that the rapid air movements generated by bass frequencies meet minimal resistance, preventing the “choked” sound common with inferior waterproofing methods. The material is resistant to chlorine, saltwater, alcohol, and common cleaning agents, making it ideal for speakers used in pools, showers, and outdoor adventures. The vent cover is customizable in diameter from 20 mm to 80 mm, suiting both compact and large-format portable speakers.
Portable speaker brands market their products for outdoor lifestyles, but water damage remains a top reason for returns. Traditional speaker cloth or foam absorbs water, becoming a soggy barrier that kills volume and fidelity. This EPTFE vent cover transforms the speaker into a truly submersible device without adding a thick, sound-deadening rubber gasket. It repels water on contact, so the speaker sounds the same whether wet or dry. The non-woven backing acts as a sand and dirt filter, preventing grit from reaching the speaker cone and voice coil. By sealing the entire active area of the driver, it enables a fully waterproof speaker enclosure that can float and continue playing music.

The speaker’s diaphragm pushes air through the large-area vent cover. The EPTFE layer’s high porosity provides a low-resistance pathway for air movement, while its hydrophobic pores prevent liquid water penetration. The non-woven PET backing gives the thin EPTFE enough structural strength to resist the back-and-forth air pressure pulses of bass frequencies without ballooning or cracking. When the speaker is submerged, a thin layer of air remains on the membrane surface due to hydrophobicity, and sound continues to transmit because the air film couples the speaker’s vibrations to the water. Upon emerging, water drains instantly, and full loudness is restored.
A: Yes, the EPTFE and PET materials are saltwater-resistant. Rinse the speaker with fresh water after saltwater use to prevent salt buildup on surrounding surfaces, but the vent itself will not be damaged.
A: The vent is designed to add minimal acoustic mass. If the vent area is matched correctly to the driver’s excursion capability, bass response remains essentially unchanged. We provide sizing guidance to speaker engineers.
A: It is designed for internal mounting behind the decorative grille. Adhesive is applied to the inside of the speaker housing to create a permanent seal. Field retrofitting is not recommended without disassembly.
