A flat calibration block for ultrasonic testing of welds specified in ASME BPVC Section V, designed for thin plate and thin-wall welds with thickness ≤ 25 mm.
General Information
Full Name: ASME 19 Calibration Block / ASME No.1 Non-Piping Calibration Block
Standard Reference: ASME BPVC Section V, Article 4, T-434.2.1
Main Functions: Calibration of ultrasonic tester sensitivity, DAC curve, sound velocity and sweep range
Application: Flat plate, vessel and structural welds (non-piping service)
Applicable Workpiece Thickness: Weld & base material ≤ 25 mm
Main Specifications
  • Thickness (T): 19 mm (0.75 in)
  • Overall Dimension: 19×150×120 mm, rectangular flat block
  • Artificial Defects:
    • Three Side-Drilled Holes (SDH): Φ2.5 mm (3/32 in) diameter, 38 mm (1.5 in) length through holes at positions: 0.25T, 0.5T, 0.75T
    • Two Notches: 25×6×0.38 mm (Length × Width × Depth) Notch depth: 2%T ≈ 0.38 mm
  • Material: Carbon steel (1018), stainless steel (304/316L), etc. Material shall match the P-No of test pieces

Operation Guidelines
  • DAC Curve: Establish Distance-Amplitude Curve by three side-drilled holes for defect evaluation
  • Sensitivity Calibration: Set testing sensitivity with the Φ2.5 mm side-drilled hole at 0.5T position
  • Sound Velocity & Sweep Range: Calibrate via the 19 mm block thickness
  • Curvature Requirement: For flat plates and large-diameter vessels (OD > 500 mm). Curved blocks shall be used for pipes with OD ≤ 500 mm
