  • Key functions & working principle
Working Principle 1. Oil Inlet: When the engine runs, pressurized oil (from the oil pump) enters the filter through inlet ports in the metal housing.
2. Filtration: Oil flows through the cellulose-synthetic media, which traps contaminants (metal shavings, dust, sludge) while allowing clean oil to pass through.
3. Clean Oil Outlet: Filtered oil exits the filter through the center tube and flows to the engine’s crankshaft, bearings, camshaft, and other moving parts – lubricating and cooling them.
4. Clog Protection: If the media clogs (pressure drop exceeds 150–200 kPa), the pressure relief valve opens, directing unfiltered oil to the engine (temporary safeguard to prevent oil starvation).
5. Dry Start Prevention: When the engine stops, the anti-drainback valve closes, keeping oil in the filter. This ensures oil is immediately available to engine parts on the next startup.
Core Functions 1. Contaminant Removal: Traps metal particles (from wear), dust (from job sites), and sludge (from oil oxidation) – prevents abrasive damage to engine bearings and pistons.
2. Lubrication Protection: Ensures clean oil circulates to moving parts – reduces friction and heat, extending engine service life (up to 10,000+ operating hours for SAA6D-series engines).
3. Dry Start Prevention: Anti-drainback valve eliminates dry starts – a common cause of premature bearing failure in cold weather or after long shutdowns.
4. System Safety: Pressure relief valve acts as a fail-safe during filter clogging – prevents engine seizure due to oil starvation.
5. Oil Condition Maintenance: Reduces oil degradation by removing sludge and carbon deposits – extends the life of the engine oil (aligns with Komatsu’s 250-hour oil change interval).
