  • Key functions & working principle
Working Principle 1. When the operator turns the steering wheel, mechanical force is transmitted to the valve’s spool via a linkage/rotary shaft, shifting the spool from its neutral position
2. The shifted spool opens oil passages, directing pressurized hydraulic oil from the machine’s main hydraulic pump to one side of the steering cylinder (e.g., left cylinder for left turn)
3. Oil is simultaneously routed from the opposite side of the steering cylinder back to the hydraulic tank (return line), allowing the cylinder to extend/retract
4. The pressure-compensated design modulates oil flow rate to match steering wheel speed, ensuring smooth, proportional movement of the front axle/wheels
5. When the steering wheel is centered, the spool returns to neutral, closing oil passages and locking the steering cylinder(s) in position to maintain straight travel
Core Functions 1. Precise Steering Control: Converts operator input into accurate hydraulic oil flow, enabling smooth left/right turns and straight-line stability for wheel loaders/graders
2. Load Compensation: Maintains consistent steering response regardless of engine speed or hydraulic system load (e.g., lifting heavy loads while steering)
3. Overload Protection: Integrated relief valve prevents damage to steering cylinders/linkages from excessive pressure
4. Safety: Emergency manual override (where fitted) ensures basic steering control if hydraulic power is lost
5. Efficiency: Minimal internal leakage reduces hydraulic energy loss, lowering fuel consumption and heat generation
