High Strength Fiberglass Laminating Cloth – Reinforcing Fabric For Boats, RV & Aerospace Composites
Reinforced phase (glass fiber cloth): Made by high-temperature melting and drawing of natural quartz sand, soda, lime and other raw materials. Fiberglass provides the main mechanical properties such as tensile strength, stiffness, and dimensional stability. According to different purposes, it can be divided into electronic grade fiberglass cloth (used for PCB), alkali free fiberglass cloth (universal type), and special fiberglass cloth (such as quartz cloth, polytetrafluoroethylene coated fiberglass cloth).
Matrix phase (resin): As a continuous phase, it bonds glass fibers together, transfers loads, and protects fibers from environmental erosion. Common resins include thermosetting resins (such as epoxy resin, unsaturated polyester, vinyl ester) and thermoplastic resins (such as polypropylene, nylon, PEEK).
Interface integration: The performance of both depends on the quality of interface bonding. For example, in high-frequency and high-speed circuit board materials, the interface compatibility between low polarity resins (such as modified polyphenylene oxide PPO) and fiberglass cloth is a key technical difficulty in reducing signal loss.
High strength and high modulus: Glass fiber provides excellent tensile, bending, and impact strength, is lightweight but has strong load-bearing capacity, and has a much higher specific strength than ordinary metals.
Excellent dimensional stability: small coefficient of thermal expansion, not easily deformed under heat, low shrinkage rate (usually less than 2%), able to maintain structural accuracy.
Good electrical insulation: Both resin and fiberglass are excellent insulators with stable dielectric properties, widely used in PCB substrates and electrical insulation components.
Chemical corrosion resistance and weather resistance: It has strong resistance to acid, alkali, salt, and humid environments, does not absorb moisture, does not rust, and some formulations have UV aging resistance.
Flame retardant and heat-resistant: Most systems (such as epoxy and phenolic) have self extinguishing properties (UL94 V-0 level), and the heat-resistant level can reach F level (155 ℃) or even higher, depending on the resin type.
