Q: Will a thermostat fault indirectly affect the operation of the fan clutch? What is the connection between the two?
A: It will affect indirectly, and the two are connected through "engine water temperature". The function of the thermostat is to control the coolant circulation path (small cycle/large cycle). If the thermostat is stuck in the "closed" state (only small cycle), the coolant cannot enter the radiator, the engine water temperature will rise rapidly, forcing the fan clutch to run at high speed for a long time, accelerating clutch wear; if the thermostat is stuck in the "open" state (constant large cycle), the engine water temperature is too low for a long time, and the clutch will be in a low-speed or stopped state continuously. Although it will not directly damage the clutch, it will cause slow engine warm-up and increased fuel consumption. Therefore, thermostat faults need to be repaired in time to avoid indirect damage to the fan clutch.

Q: During maintenance, it is found that the fan clutch is loosely fitted with the water pump shaft. Can it be solved by adding gaskets?
A: It is not recommended to solve it by adding gaskets, which may cause new problems. Loose fit is mostly caused by wear of the clutch bushing or deformation of the water pump shaft. Although adding gaskets can temporarily reduce looseness, it will change the coaxiality of the clutch and the fan, which is prone to eccentric vibration during operation, accelerating bearing wear, and may also cause the fan blades to collide with the radiator. The correct approach is to check the wear degree of the bushing and the water pump shaft. If the bushing is worn, replace the clutch bushing; if the water pump shaft is deformed, replace the water pump assembly to ensure accurate fit between the two.

Q: How does a silicone oil fan clutch work?
A: A silicone oil fan clutch is filled with silicone oil inside. When the engine temperature is low, the silicone oil remains stationary, and the fan idles along with the input shaft without generating strong airflow. As the temperature rises, a temperature-sensitive valve opens, allowing the silicone oil to flow into the working chamber. Here, the oil transfers torque from the input shaft to the fan, making it rotate synchronously and enhancing heat dissipation. When the temperature drops, the valve closes, and the oil returns to the storage chamber, reducing the fan speed.
