Metallurgical Grade Refractory Silicon Carbide (SiC), commonly known as Carborundum, is available in both powder and lump forms with purity levels ranging from 80% to 98% minimum and mesh sizes from 8# to 220#. This versatile material is widely used in high-temperature applications such as refractory linings, kiln furniture, and metallurgical processes. The wide purity range allows it to be tailored for different industrial needs, balancing performance and cost.
Higher purity grades (up to 98%) are suitable for precision refractories and abrasives, while lower grades (80%–90%) are cost-effective for general refractory and metallurgical uses. The mesh size range (8# to 220#) enables selection of coarse to fine particles, making it suitable for diverse applications—from heavy-duty grinding and abrasion to fine refractory casting and insulation. In its lump form, SiC is used to produce refractory bricks, furnace liners, and kiln shelves, which require high thermal conductivity and resistance to thermal shock. The powder form is ideal for producing abrasive tools, bonded abrasives, and as an additive in refractory mixes to enhance strength and durability.
