Classification of graphite electrodes
Based on the capacity of the electric furnace, the power load of the transformer, the different raw materials used in electrode production, and the physical and chemical indicators of the finished electrodes, graphite electrodes are classified into three types:
Large-diameter UHP graphite electrodes.
UHP graphite electrodes.
They are made from high-quality needle coke and undergo longitudinal graphitization (LWG) treatment. The graphitization temperature can reach 2800°C-3000°C. The finished product has low resistance, small linear expansion coefficient, good thermal shock resistance, and allows a high current density.
HP graphite electrodes with black joints.
HP graphite electrodes.
They are made from high-quality petroleum coke or low-grade needle coke. Their physical and mechanical properties are better than RP graphite electrodes, such as low resistance and high allowable current density.
There are two types of regular power graphite electrodes.
RP graphite electrodes.
They are produced using regular-grade petroleum coke. This type of graphite electrode has a lower graphitization temperature and a lower allowable current density than HP graphite electrodes. The allowable current density of regular power graphite electrodes is less than 17A/cm2.
