Why Use Cobalt Alloy 6 for Fan Blades?
Cobalt Alloy 6 belongs to a cobalt-based alloy family containing chromium, tungsten and carbon. This alloy family is recognized for mechanical wear resistance, including performance at elevated temperatures, together with useful corrosion resistance.
These characteristics make Cobalt Alloy 6 suitable for fan blades, impellers and rotating components exposed to combinations of friction, particle erosion, corrosive media and thermal cycling.
Wear Resistance
The cobalt-chromium alloy matrix and hard carbide phases help resist surface wear in demanding operating environments.
Elevated-Temperature Performance
The material can retain useful wear performance under elevated-temperature conditions where conventional steels may soften or experience accelerated surface damage.
Corrosion Resistance
Its chromium-containing composition provides corrosion resistance in many industrial environments, although final material suitability must be evaluated against the actual operating medium.
Resistance to Metal Contact
Cobalt Alloy 6 is often considered for components exposed to sliding contact, rubbing or intermittent metal-to-metal interaction.
Complex Casting Capability
Precision investment casting allows integrated blades, reinforced transitions and central hubs to be produced as a single component, reducing the need for multiple welded joints.

Fan Blade Design Features
The product shown incorporates:

  • Six integrated radial blades
  • Central machined hub
  • Reinforced blade-to-hub transitions
  • Curved supporting sections between blades
  • Uniform blade arrangement
  • Customizable blade height and angle
  • Machinable shaft bore
  • One-piece cast construction

Blade quantity, profile, pitch, thickness, hub diameter and bore dimensions can all be modified according to the customer’s equipment design.

Typical Applications
Cobalt Alloy 6 fan blades and impellers may be used in:

  • Industrial furnace circulation systems
  • High-temperature gas-handling equipment
  • Chemical-processing machinery
  • Mixing and agitation equipment
  • Corrosive process environments
  • Wear-resistant rotating assemblies
  • Specialized pumps and valves
  • Thermal-processing equipment
  • Petrochemical machinery
  • Custom industrial drive systems

The operating temperature, speed, medium, shaft load and balance requirements should be provided before material and process confirmation.

Precision Investment Casting Process
A typical manufacturing route includes:

  • Drawing and manufacturability review
  • Tooling and wax-pattern production
  • Wax-pattern assembly
  • Refractory shell preparation
  • Dewaxing and shell preheating
  • Cobalt alloy melting and pouring
  • Controlled cooling and solidification
  • Shell removal and casting cleaning
  • Gating-system removal
  • Grinding and surface finishing
  • Hub-bore machining
  • Dimensional and surface inspection
  • Final marking and export packaging

Heat treatment, balancing and additional testing can be performed when specified by the customer.

Custom Manufacturing Options
FH® Alloy can customize the following features:

  • Overall impeller diameter
  • Number of blades
  • Blade height and thickness
  • Blade angle and orientation
  • Hub outside diameter
  • Shaft-bore diameter
  • Keyway or internal groove
  • Mounting structure
  • Machining tolerances
  • Surface roughness
  • Casting condition
  • Inspection level

Production can be based on a 2D drawing, 3D model, sample or customer technical specification.

Inspection and Quality Control
Available inspection services include:

  • Chemical composition analysis
  • Positive Material Identification
  • Dimensional inspection
  • Visual inspection
  • Dye penetrant testing
  • Hardness testing
  • Surface-roughness inspection
  • Machined-bore inspection
  • Static or dynamic balancing when required
  • Third-party inspection

ASTM A732/A732M covers investment cast carbon, low-alloy steel and cobalt alloy components; it may be referenced when applicable and specifically required by the purchase order.
Material certificates and inspection reports can be supplied according to the agreed quality documentation requirements.

Why Choose FH® Alloy?
Custom Cobalt Alloy Casting
FH® Alloy produces special-shaped cobalt alloy components according to customer drawings rather than limiting supply to standard catalogue products.
Integrated Casting and Machining
Investment casting, grinding and machining can be coordinated through one production route, helping maintain dimensional consistency between the blades and central hub.
Complex Geometry Support
One-piece casting is suitable for fan blades and impellers with curved transitions, reinforced blade roots and difficult-to-fabricate structures.
Export Project Support
Products can be supplied with identification marking, inspection documentation and reinforced wooden-case packaging for international shipment.

FAQ
Q1: What material is used for this fan blade?
The recommended material designation is Cobalt Alloy 6, a cobalt-chromium-tungsten alloy selected for applications requiring wear resistance, corrosion resistance and elevated-temperature performance.

Q2: Can FH® Alloy manufacture the fan blade according to our drawing?
Yes. FH® Alloy can customize the blade quantity, profile, angle, thickness, hub structure, shaft bore and machining tolerances according to customer drawings.

Q3: Is the fan blade cast as one piece?
The product can be manufactured as a one-piece precision investment casting. This design eliminates multiple blade-to-hub welds and allows reinforced transitions to be incorporated into the casting.

Q4: Can the central bore be fully machined?
Yes. The central bore can be supplied in an as-cast, rough-machined or finish-machined condition. Keyways, grooves and other connection features can also be machined when shown on the drawing.

Q5: Can dynamic balancing be performed?
Yes. Static or dynamic balancing can be arranged when the operating speed, balance grade and acceptance criteria are specified in the purchase order.

Q6: What inspection documents are available?
Available documentation may include the material certificate, chemical composition report, dimensional report, hardness report, dye penetrant report and other agreed inspection records.

Q7: What is required for material confirmation?
The customer should provide the required chemical composition, applicable standard or approved material specification. FH® Alloy will manufacture and inspect the component according to the agreed acceptance criteria.
