These tubes are designed to perform in relatively lower-pressure, moderate-temperature environments compared to higher-grade steels like ASME SA192.

SA179 is a specification under the ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) standards for seamless cold-drawn carbon steel tubes. These tubes are intended for use in heat transfer applications where moderate temperature and pressure conditions prevail.

Chemical Composition:

Carbon: 0.06–0.15%
Manganese: 0.27–0.63%
Phosphorus: ≤ 0.035%
Sulfur: ≤ 0.035%
Silicon: 0.10–0.35%

Mechanical Properties:

Tensile Strength: 45,000–70,000 psi (310–480 MPa).
Yield Strength: 25,000 psi (172 MPa).
Elongation: Minimum of 30% in 8 inches (200 mm) of gauge length.
Hardness: Relatively low, contributing to its good formability and resilience in heat transfer applications.

Cold-Drawn Seamless Construction: These tubes are manufactured without seams, making them ideal for handling internal pressures without compromising structural integrity.
Lower Pressure and Temperature Resistance: While still suitable for high-temperature applications, SA179 tubes are generally used in systems with lower pressure and moderate temperature requirements compared to higher-grade boiler tubes (like ASME SA192).
