On-Site Flange Facing in Chemical Plant Using FI26E Flange Facer

During routine maintenance in a chemical plant, the MT Portable Machine team performed critical on-site flange repair using the FI26E Flange Facer. Over time, flanges exposed to high pressure and corrosion develop surface damage that can lead to leaks or equipment failure. Quick and precise resurfacing is essential to restore sealing performance.

The FI26E is a servo-driven internally mounted flange facer, ideal for machining flanges from 4.72" to 27.56". It features a lightweight aerospace-grade aluminum body, making it easy to install in tight or elevated spaces. Its dual feed system delivers ASME B16.5-compliant finishes, ensuring sealing reliability.

Powered by a 1.0 kW Panasonic servo motor, the FI26E eliminates the need for external air compressors or hydraulic power. The motor offers precise, stable cutting at low speeds, adjustable via a remote control box—perfect for workshop or remote field use.

Thanks to the FI26E’s rigid construction and MT’s experienced field team, the repair was completed with high precision and minimal downtime, restoring flange integrity and helping the plant resume operations safely and efficiently.

PRODUCT INTRODUCTION

The FI26 On-Site Flange Facing Machine is purpose-built for in-situ flange repair in demanding field environments. With an internal mounting range of 4.72"–27.56" (120–700 mm), this machine delivers precision resurfacing of damaged or corroded flange sealing faces—without requiring disassembly of piping systems. Designed for oil & gas, petrochemical, power generation, and marine sectors, it is ideal for re-machining flat face (FF), raised face (RF), ring-type joint (RTJ), tongue & groove, and other custom groove profiles to meet ASME B16.5 surface standards.

Unlike bulky traditional methods, the FI26 allows quick setup, all-position operation, and fast turnaround—making it the optimal solution for emergency maintenance and scheduled shutdowns where downtime is critical.

HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT POWER OPTION FOR ON-SITE FLANGE FACING

Pneumatic Model – FI26P

The FI26P uses a 1.0 kW pneumatic motor (1.34 Hp) operating at 1.3 m³/min @ 0.6 MPa. It’s best suited for hazardous or ATEX-classified environments where electrical equipment is restricted.

Note: Requires a consistent compressed air supply. For distant or isolated sites, ensure adequate air pressure and flow—otherwise, a dedicated compressor may be required.

Electric Model – FI26E

The FI26E features a 1.0 kW Panasonic servo motor, supporting stepless speed control and high torque at low RPM. It is the preferred option for most users, especially during plant shutdowns or controlled environments. The remote pendant controller allows real-time speed adjustment and direction control, improving operational safety and accuracy.
