Digital printing offers vibrant colors and quick turnarounds, but modern inks (UV, eco-solvent, toner) often cause problems like silvering, cloudiness, or poor adhesion during lamination. A. Ink Chemical Composition (The Barrier) Toner/wax-based prints have a coating that acts as a release agent, inhibiting cold adhesive bonding. Digital inks can also outgas residual solvents or moisture. When sealed by a cold laminate, these compounds become trapped, creating micro-bubbles (silvering).
B. Laminate Adhesive Activation (The Flaw) Cold PSA requires high pressure, but if the temperature is low, the adhesive's "wetting" capability—its ability to flow and conform to the ink’s texture—is poor, leading to incomplete contact and trapped air.
