Description
The single-mode or multi-mode fibers are housed within a loose tube made of high modulus plastic, filled
with a water-resistant compound. In cables with high fiber counts, a steel wire, sometimes sheathed with
polyethylene, serves as the central metallic strength member. These tubes, along with fillers, are wrapped
around this strength member, forming a compact circular cable core. A PSP (Parallel Steel Tape) is longit-
udinally applied over the cable core, filled with the protective compound to prevent water ingress. Finally,
the cable is encased in a PE sheath for additional protection.
