Sodium formate is a high-purity, dry crystalline organic salt used to formulate brine for drilling, workover, and completion operations requiring densities from 8.4 to 11.0 lb/gal. It is a white crystalline powder that absorbs water and has a slight formic acid odor. Sodium formate is soluble in water and glycerol and slightly soluble in ethanol.
