Melamine faced plywood is a plywood panel with a melamine-impregnated decorative paper bonded to one or both faces under heat and pressure. It combines the structural stability and screw-holding strength of plywood with a finished, wear-resistant surface — which is why it is widely used for cabinet carcasses, wardrobe panels, shelving and shop fittings.

What the Panel Actually Is

Three layers decide the quality of a melamine faced panel: the plywood core, the adhesive, and the melamine paper itself. Buyers who only compare decorative colours miss most of what they are paying for. The core governs strength and screw holding, the glue line governs whether the facing stays bonded, and the paper grade governs scratch and moisture resistance on the finished surface.

• Poplar core — light, economical, good for interior furniture in dry conditions.
• Eucalyptus core — denser and more stable, common in humid climate markets.
• Birch core — high density with strong screw holding, used for load-bearing cabinet components.

What Determines Quality

• Face adhesion — the melamine paper must not lift or bubble at cut edges or after lamination cycles.
• Thickness tolerance — normally ±0.2 to ±0.5 mm; loose tolerance ruins cabinet assembly geometry.
• Moisture content — typically 8–12%; panels outside this range move after machining.
• Core density and void content — voids cause screw pull-out and edge chipping.
• Surface inspection — no scratches, blisters, glue spots or colour deviation across a batch.

Ordering Notes

Standard export sizes are 1220 x 2440 mm and 1830 x 2440 mm, with cut-to-size panels available against a cutting list. Samples of the actual decor and core should be approved before production. Minimum order quantity is normally one 20 ft container, and mixed thicknesses with a consistent decor can be loaded together.
