When equipment operates at extreme temperatures, wiring becomes the weakest link. Our mica-based high-temperature cable addresses this challenge directly. Using a multi-layer insulation system that combines compressed mica tape with a tightly woven fiberglass outer sheath, this wire maintains stable electrical performance even when surface temperatures soar past 450°C.
Unlike conventional heat-resistant wires that rely on synthetic polymers, this cable uses inorganic mica – a naturally occurring silicate mineral with exceptional dielectric strength and a melting point above 1000°C. This makes it an ideal choice for environments where fire risk, toxic smoke, or insulation breakdown cannot be tolerated.
Core Construction – Layer by Layer
Conductor core: Stranded construction using either bare copper, hot-dip nickel-plated copper, or solid pure nickel. The nickel-plated option is our best-seller for 400–500°C work, as the plating effectively prevents surface scaling that commonly ruins standard copper in cyclic heating.
Primary insulation: High-purity phlogopite or muscovite mica tape wrapped helically around the conductor with a 25% overlap. This wrapping technique ensures complete coverage and maintains dielectric integrity even if the outer jacket suffers mechanical damage.
Outer mechanical protection: A braided fiberglass sleeve impregnated with a heat-set varnish. This layer resists abrasion against metal edges, protects the mica from moisture ingress during storage, and adds a clean, finished appearance.

Where This Cable Proves Its Value
Our customers typically install this wire in three main categories of equipment:
Thermal processing units: Industrial ovens, autoclaves, curing presses, and ceramic kilns where thermocouple and power leads must endure repeated door-opening cycles.
Food service and kitchen appliances: Commercial toasters, pizza deck ovens, broilers, and rice warmers – applications subject to health and safety inspections that strictly limit PVC use.
Energy and conversion systems: Generator windings, transformer leads, battery interconnects in high-ambient spaces, and solar thermal collector junctions.
Specialty vehicles and marine: Engine-room cabling on ships, auxiliary heater wiring in railcars, and de-icing systems for aircraft nacelles.
Availability and Customization
We maintain stock in AWG sizes 26 through 4, in spool lengths of 100 ft, 500 ft, and 1000 ft. Custom colour-coded stripes, non-standard voltages, or parallel-conductor configurations are available for OEMs with minimum order quantities. If you are replacing an existing cable from a competitor, send us your current part number – we can cross-reference it and suggest a direct matching alternative within 24 hours.

Installation and Termination Tips
Because mica tape can be brittle under sharp stress, we recommend stripping the fiberglass braid using a thermal stripper rather than mechanical blades to avoid nicking the mica layer. For terminations, use nickel-plated ring or spade terminals and torque them to standard values – over-tightening can crush the insulation and reduce the creepage distance. When running long lengths, support the cable every 300 mm to prevent sagging under its own weight at high temperatures.
