Structure of an externally meshing double gear pump. The tooth shape is a double arc sinusoidal curve type, and a pair of intermeshing gears and pump cylinders separate the suction and discharge chambers. When the gear rotates, the volume between the teeth at the side teeth of the suction cavity gradually increases, the pressure decreases, and the liquid enters the teeth under the action of pressure difference. As the gears rotate, the liquid between the teeth is carried to the discharge chamber. At this time, the interdental volume at the meshing of the teeth on the side of the discharge cavity gradually decreases, and the liquid is discharged. Gear pumps are suitable for conveying lubricating liquids that do not contain solid particles, are non-corrosive, and have a wide viscosity range. The pump has a flow rate of up to 300 m3/h and a pressure of up to 3×107 Pa. It is commonly used as a hydraulic pump and to convey various types of oil. The gear pump is simple and compact in structure, easy to manufacture, easy to maintain, and has self-priming ability, but the flow rate and pressure pulsation are large and the noise is large. The gear pump must be equipped with a safety valve to prevent damage to the pump or prime mover due to some reason such as the outlet pressure of the pump exceeding the allowable value due to the blockage of the discharge pipe, and the opening pressure of the safety valve is generally 1.5 times the working pressure.
