The application of molasses in soil improvement

1.Molasses itself contains a large amount of organic matter, nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium and various trace elements, and has the foundation to become a high-quality fertilizer.

After simple treatment, such as adding specific microbial communities for fermentation, the waste liquid of sugarcane molasses alcohol can be made into liquid organic fertilizer rich in various nutrients.

In the vegetable cultivation experiment, after applying the organic fertilizer made from molasses fermentation, the vegetables tasted better, had a higher vitamin content, and were more competitive in the market.

2. Enhance the utilization rate of chemical fertilizers

Molasses can be used in combination with chemical fertilizers to become an efficient fertilizer enhancer.

The organic components in molasses can undergo complexation reactions with nutrient ions in the soil, reducing the fixation and loss of nutrients.

After adding molasses to nitrogenous fertilizers, the soil's adsorption and retention capacity of nitrogen is enhanced, making the release of nitrogen fertilizers slower and more uniform, and prolonging the fertilizer effect period.

Molasses provides abundant carbon sources and energy for microorganisms, which can significantly enhance the activity and reproductive capacity of beneficial microorganisms in microbial fertilizers.

When molasses is added to some microbial fertilizers with Bacillus as the main strain, the number of Bacillus increases significantly in a short period of time, and its ability to decompose insoluble phosphorus and potassium in the soil is significantly enhanced.

The use of microbial fertilizers with molasses added in orchards can effectively increase the content of available phosphorus and potassium in the soil, promote the absorption of nutrients by the root system of fruit trees, and improve the yield and quality of fruits.

4. Develop stress-resistant fertilizers

There is great potential in developing fertilizers with stress resistance functions using molasses.

The components such as betaine and proline in molasses can enhance the stress resistance of crops.

Combining molasses with other substances with stress-resistant effects (such as seaweed extracts, amino acids, etc.) can produce new types of stress-resistant fertilizers.

In cotton cultivation in arid areas, after applying this stress-resistant fertilizer containing molasses, the drought resistance of cotton has been significantly enhanced. 5. Production of slow-release and controlled-release fertilizers

Slow-release and controlled-release fertilizers can release nutrients slowly according to the growth needs of crops, reducing the waste of fertilizers and environmental pollution.

Using molasses as raw material and modifying it through physical or chemical methods to coat fertilizer particles, fertilizers with slow and controlled release functions can be prepared.

The nitrogen fertilizer is wrapped with a coating material made by mixing molasses and starch and other substances.

The nutrient release rate of this slow-release and controlled-release fertilizer in the soil can be adjusted according to conditions such as soil moisture and temperature. During the early growth stage of crops, the release rate is relatively slow, meeting the crops' small demand for nutrients.

• Drinking Water Addition: Add 1%-2% molasses liquid to drinking water (filter to prevent blockage) to alleviate summer heat stress.
• Licking Brick Production: Mix with salt and minerals to produce liquid licking bricks, with molasses liquid constituting 30%-40%, encouraging cattle and sheep to lick freely.
