Material Handing System Used for Submerged Arc Furnace

The Material Handing System(MHS) is an important part of metallurgical equipment such as EAF, refining furnace, and submerged arc furnace (SAF), responsible for accurately and efficiently delivering raw materials (scrap, ferroalloys, slag-forming materials, etc.) into the furnace according to process requirements.

 

Core Equipment Classification of Material Handing System

 

Bin Storage & Conveying System: Bins are used to store various raw materials, divided by function into high-level bins, intermediate bins, weighing bins, etc.
 

Equipment Name Specifications Description
High‑level Bin Volume: 10–30 m³
Quantity: based on raw material types (e.g., 15 bins)
Located at the high charging floor; material flows by gravity. Equipped with ultrasonic level meter (low level alarm typically set at 15%).
Weighing Hopper Volume: 1.0–2.0 m³
Weighing range: 0–2000 kg
Quantity: 2–3 units (for different bin groups)
Uses compression load cells for weighing; accumulates multiple materials.
Emergency Hopper Volume: same as weighing hopper Used to empty the weighing hopper under abnormal conditions.
Intermediate Hopper Volume: determined by process Located below the weighing hopper; temporarily stores the batched material before feeding into the furnace.

 

Feeding Equipment: Vibratory Feeder,Electromagnetic Vibratory Feeder,Disc Feeder and Screw Feeder.

Furnace Front Charging Equipment: Charging & Stoking Machine is specialized equipment for open and semi-closed submerged arc furnaces, with both charging and stoking functions, enabling uniform distribution, eliminating hanging materials, and reducing crust formation in the furnace.

By Function Single‑function Charging Machine Charging only.
Stoking Machine Stoking and leveling only.
Multi‑function Charging & Stoking Machine Combines charging, stoking, and pushing.
By Travel Mode Straight Rail Type Travels on straight rails; commonly used in small/medium‑sized domestic Si‑Fe furnaces (three machines per furnace).
Circular Rail Type Travels on circular rails.
Trackless Free‑moving Type Tire‑type travel, flexible and maneuverable; widely used in large foreign furnaces (one machine can handle three material surfaces).
