Hypoid Gears For Precision Mechanical Transmission Systems​

 

Hypoid gears play an important role in precision mechanical transmission systems in transmitting power and motion, maintaining high-precision transmission ratios, reducing vibration and noise, and accommodating non-parallelism or small angle deviations between axes.

 

Hypoid gears are widely used in power transmission of transmission systems such as cars, heavy trucks, mining vehicle drive axles, and aircraft transmissions. They are one of the most widely used power transmission methods between staggered or non-staggered shafts.


Characteristics of hypoid gears:

 

1. Axis offset: Hypoid gears are used for transmission between two axes with staggered axes. The distance that the axis of the small wheel deviates from the axis of the large wheel is called the offset distance. The existence of the offset distance makes the transmission design layout more flexible.


2. Large helix angle: The direction of the offset is generally taken to increase the helix angle of the small wheel. As the offset distance increases, the helix angle of the small wheel also increases, and the outer diameter of the small wheel also increases, which can improve the rigidity and strength of the small wheel.


3. Smooth transmission: The small wheel of the hypoid gear pair has a larger helix angle, which obtains a greater overlap when meshing, and the transmission is smoother.


4. Complex surface: The tooth surface is a complex surface, and it is difficult to obtain a relatively accurate geometric model and finite element model using the usual method.
