3004 aluminum alloy is a medium-strength, non-heat-treatable alloy primarily composed of
manganese and magnesium. It offers better strength than pure aluminum while maintaining
good formability,weldability, and corrosion resistance.
key properties
♦ Moderate Strength
Tensile strength: 130–285 MPa (depending on temper, with H18 full-hard state offering the highest
strength). Strength can be significantly improved through cold working (e.g., rolling), but it cannot
be heat-treated for strengthening.
♦ Excellent Formability
High ductility, suitable for deep drawing, stretching, and other forming processes (e.g., beverage can bodies).
♦ Outstanding Corrosion Resistance
Due to its manganese (Mn) and magnesium (Mg) content, it resists atmospheric, water, and chemical
corrosion, particularly in humid and saline environments.
♦ Good Weldability
Compatible with conventional welding methods (e.g., MIG/TIG), making it ideal for sealed packaging
containers.
♦ Lightweight
Low density (~2.7 g/cm³), lighter than steel, reducing transportation costs.

Beverage Can Bodies (e.g., Beer, Soda Cans)
3004 sheets are deep-drawn into cylindrical can bodies, replacing 3003 alloy (3004 offers higher
strength due to Mg content). Surfaces can be coated or printed for branding.
Food Cans: Used for meat, vegetables, etc., offering corrosion resistance and non-toxicity.
2. Bottle Caps and Seals
Screw Caps, Crown Caps:
Stamped into lids with excellent sealing properties (e.g., water bottle caps, wine caps).
Aerosol Cans (Spray Cans):
Used in cosmetics and pharmaceuticals, requiring contamination-free and pressure-resistant materials.
