Wire Rope Winding Orientation
The right hand is typically used for determining right-lay wire ropes and the left hand for left-lay wire ropes when standing toward the drum. Many crane models feature two-sided grooved drums for winding wire ropes as shown below.

When re-reeling steel wire ropes from horizontally supported reels to another drum, ensure the rope travels from the top of the reel to the top of the drum or bottom to bottom to avoid reverse bends.

Important Notes:
When re-reeling steel wire ropes, ensure the drum surface is clean, smooth, and dry to protect wire ropes from damage by foreign particles. For reels with vertical shafts, maintain constant rope tension to avoid slack accumulation during re-reeling operations.
