Introduction to HDPE (High Density Polyethylene)

HDPE (High Density Polyethylene) is a widely used thermoplastic with various characteristics:

Basic Information:

HDPE is produced by copolymerizing ethylene with a small amount of alpha olefin monomer. It is also referred to as low-pressure polyethylene due to its synthesis under lower pressure. The molecular structure of HDPE is predominantly linear, with minimal branching, high crystallinity, and high density.

Physical Properties:

HDPE appears as a non-toxic, odorless, and tasteless white particle with a melting point of approximately 130 ℃ and a relative density ranging from 0.941 to 0.960. It exhibits excellent heat and cold resistance, maintaining performance between -40 ℃ and 100 ℃.

Chemical Properties:

HDPE demonstrates good chemical stability and remains insoluble in any organic solvents at room temperature. It resists corrosion from acids, alkalis, and various salts; however, it can dissolve in hydrocarbon solvents above 60 ℃.

Mechanical Properties:

HDPE possesses high rigidity, toughness, and mechanical strength. It showcases exceptional stress cracking resistance, outstanding wear resistance, and a lifespan in water environments that is four times longer than that of steel pipes.
