This lightweight panel, sized 1220×2440mm (4×8 ft), features a specially modified gypsum core with water-repellent additives and treated facing paper, offering a practical solution that balances reduced weight with enhanced moisture performance.
The moisture resistance of this gypsum board is achieved through advanced core modification. Siloxane-based water-repellent agents are incorporated into the gypsum slurry during production, forming a hydrophobic layer on the gypsum crystals that effectively blocks capillary water absorption. Combined with moisture-resistant facing and backing paper, the board achieves a water absorption rate of only 6.8% — significantly lower than standard gypsum board (often above 20%). This technology maintains dimensional stability and mechanical strength even in environments with relative humidity up to 90%.
