Characteristics and Material Properties

The demanding service environment necessitates that high-pressure boiler tubes possess exceptional material properties:

High-Temperature Strength and Creep Resistance: They must maintain structural integrity and resist deformation (a phenomenon known as "creep") over prolonged periods at temperatures often exceeding 500°C (932°F). Alloying elements like Molybdenum (Mo), Chromium (Cr), and Vanadium (V) are added to enhance strength at elevated temperatures.
Excellent Oxidation and Corrosion Resistance: The inner surface must resist corrosion from high-purity water and steam, while the outer surface must withstand oxidation (scaling) and corrosive flue gases. Chromium is a key element for improving oxidation resistance.
Good Stability and Microstructural Integrity: The material must remain stable under thermal cycling (repeated heating and cooling) to prevent the formation of brittle phases and ensure long-term durability.
Superior Internal Quality and Purity: The steel must be of high purity with low levels of impurities (like Sulfur and Phosphorus) and non-metallic inclusions to prevent weaknesses and crack initiation points.
Precise Dimensional Tolerances: Strict control over outer diameter (OD), wall thickness (WT), and length is essential for ensuring proper fit-up, welding, and efficient fluid flow within the boiler system.
