The electrical integrity of a grounding device refers to the electrical connectivity between the various grounded parts of electrical equipment and the grounding device itself — that is, the DC resistance value, also known as electrical conductivity. A reliable and effective connection between the power equipment grounding lead wire and the ground network is the fundamental guarantee of safe equipment operation.
The grounding lead is the connection point between power equipment and the ground network. During long-term operation, this connection may be affected by moisture and other factors, leading to node corrosion or even fracture. This results in increased resistance at the connection point between the grounding lead and the main grounding network, which cannot meet the requirements of electric power regulations and creates serious safety hazards — potentially causing equipment to operate without proper grounding. Underground grounding electrodes and their connection parts may also corrode or fracture. Therefore, regular electrical integrity testing of grounding devices is essential.
Power industry standard DL/T475-2006, Measurement Guidelines for Characteristic Parameters of Earthing Devices, stipulates that electrical conductivity should be measured by a specialized instrument with a resolution of 1 mΩ and an accuracy of not less than 1.0 level.
