2.1 Crushing Mechanism

 

Under out-of-plane compressive loading, the aluminum honeycomb structure undergoes progressive plastic deformation. The thin-walled cells initially experience elastic buckling, followed by plastic collapse as cell walls hinge and fold in a controlled manner. This uniform collapse process propagates through the honeycomb thickness, converting kinetic energy into deformation work at a near-constant force level.
