1. Main Structure

The foundation of the Grossing Station is its robust and hygienic structural design. The worktop is fabricated from high-quality 304 stainless steel with a thickness of no less than 1.0 mm. The surface features a matte, anti-reflective finish that reduces eye strain during prolonged use and minimizes glare from overhead lighting.

The worktop is constructed using fully seamless welding techniques with chamfered edges, eliminating sharp corners that could cause scratches or serve as accumulation points for contaminants. The entire work surface is tilted at a precise 3° to 5° angle toward the rear, incorporating built-in drainage channels that ensure waste liquids flow quickly and efficiently into the collection port without pooling.

Beneath the work surface, the unit is equipped with stainless steel storage cabinets and drawers, providing convenient and organized space for storing retrieval tools, specimen boxes, and other essential supplies. The cabinet doors are engineered with a self-closing function and feature excellent sealing performance, effectively preventing any odor leakage and maintaining a clean laboratory environment.

2. Core Functional System Configuration

Exhaust and Negative Pressure System

Personnel safety is paramount during grossing procedures. The  station is equipped with a top-mounted exhaust hood that is both height-adjustable and 360° rotatable, allowing users to position it precisely according to their working needs. A built-in negative pressure device maintains the workstation interior at a controlled negative pressure between -5 Pa and -10 Pa, with an air velocity of no less than 0.3 m/s. This powerful exhaust system rapidly removes formaldehyde vapors, tissue debris aerosols, and other airborne pollutants from the user's breathing zone, ensuring a safe working environment.

Water Supply and Rinsing System

Efficient cleaning is essential for specimen processing. The workstation features a dual-control hot and cold water faucet mounted on the work surface, providing precise temperature control. For more intensive cleaning, a high-pressure rinsing spray gun is included, delivering water pressure of ≥0.6 MPa. The spray gun is retractable, making it easy to rinse hard-to-reach areas of the work surface without clutter. Additionally, a pure water interface is provided to accommodate special sample processing needs requiring deionized or distilled water.

Waste Liquid and Waste Collection System

The drainage system is designed for reliability and hygiene. Waste liquids flow through guide channels to an anti-clogging filter device that effectively intercepts tissue debris, preventing plumbing blockages. Filtered waste liquid is directed into a sealed waste liquid collection bucket with a capacity of ≥20 L, conveniently installed at the rear of the workstation for easy removal and disposal. To further enhance hygiene, a waste bucket hook is mounted on the edge of the work surface, featuring foot-operated opening mechanism that allows hands-free disposal and eliminates the risk of contact contamination.

Lighting and Auxiliary Devices

Proper illumination is critical for accurate specimen examination. The workstation is fitted with a cold light source spotlight delivering a color temperature of 5000K to 6000K with flicker-free operation. This lighting configuration prevents heat-induced deterioration of tissue samples while providing true-to-life color representation. On both sides of the work surface, tool racks and specimen box placement areas are thoughtfully positioned for easy access. Adjustable specimen holders are also provided, allowing secure positioning of samples during examination.

3. Biosafety Protection Configuration

The Grossing Station incorporates multiple layers of biosafety protection to safeguard laboratory personnel. A splash guard with a height of ≥15 cm is installed around the perimeter of the work surface, effectively preventing tissue fluids and fixatives from splashing onto the user or surrounding areas. For applications requiring additional isolation, an optional transparent protective screen is available, creating a physical barrier between the operator and the specimen while maintaining clear visibility.

To ensure proper decontamination, the cabinet can be equipped with ultraviolet disinfection lamps for timed disinfection of tools, consumables, and work surfaces between uses. The entire workstation is designed and manufactured in full compliance with GB 19489 – General Requirements for Laboratory Biosafety, providing assurance that it meets the highest standards for safe laboratory operation.
