Our DIN 371/376 TiN Coated Spiral Point Machine Taps are the ultimate solution for high-efficiency through-hole threading. By combining a premium 5% Cobalt (M35) substrate with a Titanium Nitride (TiN) PVD coating, these taps offer a surface hardness exceeding 2300 HV.
The specialized Spiral Point geometry at the cutting face continuously pushes chips forward and out through the bottom of the hole. Q: Why use TiN coating for Spiral Point taps?
A: Spiral point taps are used at higher speeds than hand taps. The TiN coating reduces the heat generated at these speeds, allowing you to run your CNC machines faster without burning the tool.
Q: Can I use this tap for Blind Holes?
A: No. Spiral point taps push chips forward. In a blind hole, the chips will collect at the bottom and snap the tap. For blind holes, use our Spiral Flute series.
Q: What is the benefit of the DIN 371 Reinforced Shank?
A: For smaller sizes (M2-M10), the thicker shank provides much higher torsional rigidity, which is critical for preventing the "winding" effect and snapping during automated tapping.
