Our DIN 371/376 HSS-E M35 Nitrided Spiral Flute Taps represent the pinnacle of surface engineering for blind-hole tapping. By combining the high red-hardness of 5% Cobalt (M35) with a specialized Nitrided surface treatment, these taps provide an "armored" cutting edge.
The 35° spiral flute design acts as a high-speed elevator, pulling chips upward and out of the hole, while the nitrided layer (Surface Hardness approx HRC 68) ensures the tool survives the most abrasive machining environments without losing its edge.

Extreme Surface Hardness: The nitriding process diffuses nitrogen into the tool surface, creating a hard "case" (approx HRC 68). This is significantly harder than standard HSS-E, providing 2x-3x more wear resistance in abrasive materials.

Q: Why use Nitrided taps instead of TiN coated taps?
A: Nitriding is a diffusion process, not a coating. It won't peel or flake off under high pressure. It is particularly effective in abrasive materials like cast iron where coatings might wear off prematurely.
Q: Does Nitriding make the tap more brittle?
A: No. Because we use HSS-M35 as the base material, the core remains tough and flexible enough to handle the torque, while only the surface is hardened to resist wear.
Q: What is the benefit of the DIN 371 Reinforced Shank?
A: For smaller sizes (M2-M10), the thicker shank provides much higher torsional rigidity, which is critical for preventing the "corkscrew" breakage often seen in high-speed CNC tapping.
